“If the price of a shirt is Rs 800 and the shopkeeper sells it at a discount of 16%, what will be the selling price ?”
Two of the students of Class VI, answered it in the following ways :
Student I : Selling price = Rs 800 - 16% of Rs 800
= Rs 800 - Rs (80 + 48)
= Rs 800 - Rs 128 = Rs 672
Student II : Selling price = Rs 800 - 16% of Rs 800
= Rs 800 - Rs ((800 x 16) / 100)
= Rs 800 - Rs 8 x 16
= Rs 800 - Rs 128 = Rs 672
